3. The government releases funds to encourage mechanization of agriculture under the SMAM scheme.

Indian farmers have stuck to the same old methods of farming for centuries. Those methods are not only less productive but also cause a lot of damage to the environment. For example the Issues of crop residue burning cause air pollution in northern India. These issues make the modernization of agriculture an absolute necessity.

Sub-mission of agricultural mechanization (SMAM) was aimed to revamp the machinery used in Indian Agriculture to increase productivity and make it eco-friendly. It was launched in 2014, under this scheme Rs. 117847 crores have been given to Punjab, Haryana, Up, and NCT in the year 2018-19.

For the year 2020-21 a total of Rs 1033 crores out of which 553 crores have been given to states under this scheme to carry out advanced mechanization in the hope to improve productivity and profitability.

Since these machines are highly expensive, the government has decided to provide this equipment on a rental basis to encourage the modernization amongst small scale farmers. Farmers would be connected to custom hiring service centers through an app called "CHC- farm machinery" later its name was changed to FARMS(Farm machinery solution)-App.

For the issue of crop residue burning the government has launched Crop residue management (CRM) to provide the required machinery to farmers for proper disposal of crop residue instead of burning them. These machinery will be also provided by "Custom hiring centres."

4. The farming sector has remained unaffected by COVID-19.

In this dull phase, a breeze of positivity has finally given us a relief. Narendra Singh Tomar, the Union Agriculture Minister has said that in this tough time of COVID when all industries had hitten hard by it but the farm sector has remained unaffected by it. In a webinar of Merchants' Chamber of Commerce and Industry(MCCI), he mentioned that the farmers have grown nice Kharif crops and had a great rabi crops harvest. And it has helped the local economy to be stabilized. He has also talked about the transfer of Rs.17,500 crore by PM for farmers through direct benefit transfer. And to that, he has also added that farmers will enjoy the full support of the government in the future and the government will surely do the proper arrangements for farmers to sell their goods without going in mandis. For better prices of goods in the local market and exports, the government is emphasizing on organic farming.

5. Centre releases Rs 553 cr to states to promote mechanization in Agriculture Sector

To boost the country’s agriculture sector and aid farmers, Prime Minister Narendra Modi launched a financing facility of Rs 1 lakh crore under the Agricultural Infrastructure Fund, through a video conference, on August 9, 2020.

PM Modi also released the sixth installment of funds under the Pradhan Mantri Kisan Samman Nidhi Yojna (PM-KISAN) scheme. A transfer of Rs 17,000 crore to an estimated 8.5 crore farmers under the scheme was also initiated.

Under this scheme, a loan amount of Rs 1 lakh crore will be made available for four years. While Rs 10,000 crore will be made available in loans between 2020 - 2021. An amount of  Rs 30,000 crore will be provided in the remaining three years.  Subsidy of Three percent on interest will also be provided to farmers on loan amounting to 2 crore or less up to seven years. PM also said that all these schemes and reforms are aimed at the country’s farmers

6. Prime ministers urge farmers to reduce the use of urea.

Urea is largely used by farmers as a fertilizer in agriculture. The prime minister, Mr. Narendra Modi wants that farmers should downturn the use of urea in agricultural practice.

There are primarily two reasons behind PM's request, India imports urea in large quantity and a significant amount of money is spent on urea purchase and therefore, it affects the economy of the nation. Secondly, excessive use of urea degrades the quality of the soil. Soil becomes infertile due to the continuous use of urea. Moreover, urea not only harms the soil but many natural resources like pond, lake and rivers get polluted by urea. As the urea goes into these water resources it contaminates the water.

Hence, if a single farmer can cut two bags of urea then it will definitely help the nation economically at the same time will save the environment from dire consequences.
